Over thirty-three years ago, my dad bought his first daylily to grow by my mother’s fish pond here in Sanford, FL. After all, flowers and horticulture have played a major role in the lives of the Kirchhoff family for four generations. Beginning around 1880, near Pembroke, NY, Wm. Ertman Kirchhoff's family, recently emigrated from Majdaberg, Germany, began growing and hybridizing gladiolus.

In the mid 1960's, Ed Kirchhoff, having recently retired from the gladiolus business with his uncle, William E. Kirchhoff, Jr, and with the encouragement of newly acquired daylily friends, began growing daylilies. He found that growing and hybridizing daylilies was infinitely more fun than growing gladiolus. They had become his main new passion for the rest of his life. In 1971, he welcomed back his son David, who left behind a career in Music. In 1972 Mort Morss, whose main passion was art, was invited to come and help build Daylily World. Ed and Mary Helen Kirchhoff died in 1978, having enjoyed the magic of daylilies and their daylily friends to the fullest.

From those modest beginnings, Daylily World has blossomed into one of the leading daylily nurseries in the world. We are still a family operation -owned and managed by the next generation of daylily growers. Our new hybrids are in high demand by daylily growers the world over, and garner a share of the American Hemerocallis Society awards year after year. We take pride in each and every plant that leaves our nursery. We promise to select, pack and ship your order from our farms to you in the shortest time possible. We send each plant in its freshest possible condition. In fact, we guarantee it! There is one of us behind every piece of Daylily World plant or merchandise that leaves here. We look forward to serving you this season, and we appreciate your business.
Thank you,

David Kirchhoff and
Mort Morss
