David’s first cross was in 1958, and his love of daylilies continues unabated. He is perhaps best known for his red and double flowered cultivars, although his two Lennington All American daylilies - MING PORCELAIN and CHORUS LINE were shades of pink. His two Stout Medal award winners – BETTY WOODS, the first double ever to win is a golden yellow, as is his single flowered, BILL NORRIS. David eagerly anticipates the challenge of growing and hybridizing daylilies for northern hardiness. 
Mort Morss began hybridizing daylilies in 1971, and his cultivars are very popular and widely grown. His award winning, first introduction, was named INNER VIEW and it helped launch the popularity of patterned daylilies. Mort’s Lennington All American Award winning PAPER BUTTERFLY was the first widely acclaimed cultivar with a patterned eyezone. This could be considered a missionary daylily. Its exemplary, near-perfect
blooms will convert multitudes of folks who only admire single ones! Daylily
connoisseurs, regardless of their favorite chosen forms, are struck by
its beauty and perfection. A yellow cloverleaf pattern over the lime throat
takes up the inside half of the flower. The outer half of the flower is
a strong combination of coral peach pink and rose. All segments are heavily
ruffled and outlined in bright gold. A consummate grower - perfect foliage,
and as disease free as daylilies can be! The form is EMO, peony style
with wide pleated edges. Texture is smooth and sparkling. Substance and
color hold well. Scapes have 3 - 5 way branching with up to 45 buds. Very
fertile, and a great pod and pollen parent. 99.999% double. We've not
seen it bloom single!
