David Kirchhoff

David KirchhoffDavid’s first cross was in 1958, and his love of daylilies continues unabated. He is perhaps best known for his red and double flowered cultivars, although his two Lennington All American daylilies - MING PORCELAIN and CHORUS LINE were shades of pink. His two Stout Medal award winners – BETTY WOODS, the first double ever to win is a golden yellow, as is his single flowered, BILL NORRIS. David eagerly anticipates the challenge of growing and hybridizing daylilies for northern hardiness.

Mort Morss

Mort MorssMort Morss began hybridizing daylilies in 1971, and his cultivars are very popular and widely grown. His award winning, first introduction, was named INNER VIEW and it helped launch the popularity of patterned daylilies. Mort’s Lennington All American Award winning PAPER BUTTERFLY was the first widely acclaimed cultivar with a patterned eyezone. His unwavering pursuit of excellence in the realm of patterned flowers has resulted in a disproportionately large percentage of the most coveted patterned eyes and edges by cutting edge hybridizers world wide. The popularity of his cultivars is such that they usually sell out soon after they are offered and are beloved throughout the world.

SHERLEY CHANNING

From Florida to California, and across to Russia, Japan, Australia, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, and beyond, Daylily World has been bringing award winning daylilies to gardens for nearly forty years.

We want to thank our loyal friends and customers for your wonderful support while we transitioned from our subtropical Florida garden to the temperate climate of Kentucky. Our garden had its earliest beginnings in 1952 and we welcomed thousands of visitors from the far corners for the next forty years. In two thousand and six, we packed tens of thousands of daylilies, and moved our garden along with our worldly possessions and two German Shepherds from Sanford Florida to the heart of the bluegrass in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky.

BEYOND THE SKYWe relocated the garden here for excellent soil and ease of growing daylilies. We came to further identify and create even hardier cultivars for northern gardens using our hardiest Florida hybrids as a base.

This is our third year of testing, selecting, and hybridizing here in the north. We love visitors, and the best bloom is from June 25 to July 20. You may wish to contact us for absolute peak dates, which we expect to be the first week in July so please call to insure someone is here to assist you. The garden is open Wednesday – Sunday, June 25 – July 15. GPS and MapQuest fail to mention that you must turn up the hill immediately after the mailbox with the # 1301 on the side. We are about 1 ¾ miles east of SR 127 on Gilberts Creek Road, immediately south of the Martha Lane Collins Bluegrass Parkway. Phone 407-416-9119.

About our listings

PURSUIT OF PLEASUREDaylily hybridizers are nearly always working toward the future, and we are no exception. We have created and offered hundreds of daylilies over the decades. We are growing a representative collection of our work, but space doesn’t permit us to grow everything. The many images in our galleries are there for you to enjoy and to reference our history with daylilies. There will be a limited supply of a few select older plants that are flourishing in Kentucky, and we will offer them for sale (by adding their prices) in late Spring (or sooner) of 2009.
